Information Systems Guest Speaker Series with Dr. Andreas Drechsler and Bettina Horlach on Tuesday, June 30th, 2020

24.06.2020

In the context of our “Information Systems Guest Speaker Series”, Dr. Andreas Drechsler from the Victoria University of Wellington and Bettina Horlach fom the University of Hamburg will give a talk entitled “Everyone’s Going to be an Architect: Enterprise Architecture in Agile Organisational Contexts”. The guest lecture will take place on Tuesday, June 30th, at 10:15 - 11:45 a.m. Those interested are kindly invited to join the Zoom webinar without prior registration.

  • Abstract:

Organizational agility is a prominent aim for companies to thrive in today’s volatile business environments. One common building block of agility are (semi-)autonomous teams for continuously fulfilling and surpassing customers’ needs. However, these teams still need to see the enterprise’s ‘big picture’ of strategic objectives, business processes, and the IT landscape to prevent organizational inertia or technical debt. This requires architectural thinking to inform these ‘non’-architects’ decision-making. This presentation outlines six design principles as underlying logic on how agile organisations could implement architectural thinking. The results are based on insights from interviews with employees and consultants with expertise on architecture management and organizational agility across several industries. In addition, we give some insight into the study design and execution and the underlying data analysis.
